About Kathryn Lee Kalisz
Kathryn L. Kalisz, CEO and founder of Sci\ART Global, LLC, has dedicated her life to the study of color, its use, and its affect on human beings. As an artist, colorist and writer, she has achieved international acclaim. Since launching Sci\ART Company in 2000, her business growth has doubled annually and her teachings, products, and services are now offered around the world.
Kathryn was included in the "Who's Who of American Women," 2000-2001, Millennium Edition for her innovative work as an artist, colorist and teacher. Her passion for color, nature, and abstract design is evident in her paintings in oil, watercolor and acrylics. Her recent book, "Understanding Your Color -- A Guide to Personal Color Analysis" is recognized by image professionals as “the best on the market” and will soon be available in four languages. This book is the culmination of Kathryn’s love of color and her unique knowledge of color’s relationship to the human being.
Kalisz was influenced by the work of two great colorists, Johannes Itten (1888-1967), and Albert H. Munsell (1858-1918). Itten was known as one of the greatest teachers of the art of color, and Munsell was known for his Munsell Color System, now the world’s standard for color communication. Employed as a Munsell colorist in the 1980’s, Kathryn became fascinated by the science of color. Her continual interest in the humanities also compelled her studies in psychology, and ultimately led her to realize the purpose of color in our world and in the lives of human beings.
Kathryn teaches that beauty presents itself as one unified whole. Developing harmony between our inner being and our outer appearance creates the essence of genuine and holistic beauty. In his time, Johannes Itten stressed the importance of understanding this harmony and used the term “subjective timbre,” or personal tone, to describe this unity.
Transforming Itten’s theory of subjective timbre into a modern-day science, Kathryn has developed her highly sought-after instructional program for fashion and image consultants around the globe. Her teachings of human coloration and innate personality traits bring unsurpassed beauty and self-awareness to individuals from every race and culture. She teaches the art of color in such a way that her courses offer a life-changing experience to her students.

Kathryn Lee Kalisz - PROFESSIONAL STATEMENT
As a young art student, I was profoundly intrigued by color. As a young artist, I was profoundly intrigued by the human being. The study of both color and psychology occupied my life for twenty years, and culminated in the writing of a textbook entitled, Understanding Your Color. This book teaches the art and science of color as it pertains to the human being. Scientifically, it explains exactly what color is and describes its powerful purpose in our lives. It further explains how a human being’s personal coloration is related to his or her innate personality traits and behavioral tendencies.
My studies and experience in the field of color led to my employment with Munsell Color, from 1985 to 1991. Munsell Color is recognized as the world’s leader in color technology and color communication, and I am extremely proud to have been a part of carrying on the work of America’s greatest colorist, Albert Munsell. During my employment there, I learned the science of color and was amazed and honored to be taught by the inventor of the first color computer, Mr. Hugh Davidson, as well as other esteemed scientists in the field of color. I left Munsell Color in 1991 with the knowledge, experience and confidence I needed to teach. I have perfected the ability to communicate and teach the fascinating and abstract nature of color from both an artistic and scientific viewpoint. Furthermore, and most importantly, I teach the purpose of color in our lives. My years as an art instructor have shown me that, if presented in a logical way for a definite purpose, the subject of color is both easy to teach and easy to learn.
My goal as an instructor is to bring an understanding and appreciation of color to my students; such that it would never be lost or forgotten, but will rather be used daily as a functional working tool to improve, enliven, and enhance their lives.
